Specialist pension and annuity retirement guide for advisers

It has become evident that advisers need more information and training in the area of retirement planning, especially in respect of the range of alternatives now available, as opposed to the straightforward pension annuity route.

Therefore, to support this cause and to help advisers explain and recommend Third Way retirement income plans to clients, as alternative options, a research provider, Rayner Spencer Mills, has produced a free Retirement Income Options Adviser Guide sponsored by five major providers: Aegon Scottish Equitable, Axa, The Hartford, Lincoln Financial Group and Metlife.

Geoff Mills, from the research company, says advisers are unsure where Third Way plans fit with the guarantee of a pension annuity and the flexibility of income drawdown and are concerned about the structure and charges.

They want advisers to start to feel confident to at least discuss the various retirement options with their clients so they avoid the risk of recommendations today moving against their client’s future needs and interests.
