I am a guaranteed annuity holder who retired in Dec.2001
and never had the terminal bonus reinstated.Although not
in itself guaranteed, the bonus was always highlighted as
part of the Equitable Life " great deal ".I am anxious to find out whether any of the £1.5 billion has been earmarked for people in my position.

What utter rubbish, you are one of the reasons that I voted Conservative for the first time.(you have to be Scottish!.)
1. It is my money.
2. You make no mention of having to purchase annuities when the bank interest rates ae so low - this can make a difference of 300%
3. What about my wife, currently the rates for joint life are ridiculous.
4. I have other funds including a serbs old age pension.
5. My wife has a pension.
6. Why should I Not be allowed to leave my money to my wife and/or children just because I have reached the age of 75. Should I die before I reach 75 everything is fine. For Christ's sake what so special about the age of 75.
7. With such a low bank rate there are not any 'better deals'
8. I am not a very wealthy retiree.
9. The vast majority have an open market option now.
10. You know nothing about me so who the hell are you to tell me what to with my own money?.
11. You are clearly a vested interest speaking on behalf of the finacial services industry who with the cooperation of the largely Scottish Labour goverment
pay themselves massive bonuses to legalise stealing money from old people.
12. By now you may have got my point.

I am in the process of buying an RPI linked annuity with Canada Life. They quoted me on 28 May 2009 an annuity “increasing in line with the RPI. I accepted this quote in writing and transferred my money purchase fund to them by the stipulated date. Canada Life are now attempting to change the terms to read “the annuity will vary in line with RPI”. They did not bring this to my attention but fortunately I noticed the change - my IFA did not. I informed my IFA and Canada Life that I do not accept the change in the terms & conditions and I am insisting on the terms I agreed. Do not just rely on your IFA read the small print every time you receive updated documentation if if you think there are no alterations.

I heard that if you want to take any lump sum from an annuity, that it had better be before October 2009 because after that date there will not be enough money to back the ins co and therefore you will only be able to get 50% of what the annunity is worth. Is that so?

Does the "page 101" of the budget report give any indication that there may be some form of relaxation of the (present) rigid rule of having to take an annuity, or ceasing to take drawdown, at the age of 75 years. The Government's financial borrowing has had a considerahe effect on annuity rates and has put those approaching 75 this year (as in my case) in a very difficult position.
