Retirees show lack of confidence about affordability of retirement

Posted on 2nd October 2008

Recent research has shown that income received from pension annuities, the state, and other sources, may not be enough for retirees. Our retirement confidence has hit the lowest point in three years. Research by Alliance Trust Savings show 43 per cent of the nation now doubt they will be able to enjoy a good affordable retirement life.

According to its ‘Retirement Confidence Index’, in 2006, 38 per cent of Britons stated they were concerned about their retirement provisions (the money they will have in retirement), with this figure rising to 40 per cent in 2007 and 43 per cent in 2008.

Almost half of women do not think they will be able to make sufficient retirement provisions, compared to only just over a third of men. Quite concerning figures.

We can’t solve this problem, but we can help. Let us ensure you get the best annuity rate for your pension fund. A few hundred pounds a year extra in annuity payments could be useful.
